My Practice

My practice at OrthoIllinois is 100% focused on hip and knee replacement surgery. As a medical professional I have made it my mission to provide the safest, and least medically and surgically invasive technologies available to my patients. My surgeries have been narcotic free — or narcotic limited — in the vast majority of procedures since 2015.

I will not recommend a procedure if I don't believe it will meet patient expectations, or if risks outweigh benefits. I use non-operative approaches if indicated. Sometimes, not undertaking an operation is the best option to take. I have extensive training and experience treating previously installed joint replacements that have failed.

When I agree to a procedure I make a promise to my patients: you will do well.  You will have a successful procedure, at the end of which your leg length is going to be correct. If it's your hip that is being replaced, your ball is not going to be out of socket. I take great pride in what I do, and work hard to deliver the best possible outcomes for everyone.

I give all my operative patients my cell phone number for easy communication. All patients will be given staff cell numbers to minimize any wait times.

What can a patient expect when he/she gets a joint replacement from me?

First, I want to emphasize that each step in the surgery process will be handled by highly competent individuals. I have honed my process over 20 years. From a purely surgical standpoint, I will provide as good a quality surgery as can be delivered anywhere.

I use only top quality name brand implants. I never use generic devices. This ensures replacement parts will be available for your whole life without fear of the provider company going out of business or failing to provide a leading edge implant.

I practice evidence-based medicine, analyzing up to 1,000 data points to ensure a safe and effective procedure. If you have risk factors that can be improved, we will do that.

I live locally and travel infrequently, meaning that all my patients see me or a member of my personal staff, who you will get to know by name.

Our goal is to get people home within a day of surgery or on the same day. I have been practicing outpatient — or near-outpatient — joint replacements since 2015 when I implemented the non-narcotic approach. My patient outcomes have since improved to the point even very elderly individuals are only staying overnight.

My process is especially valuable now with COVID. The entire process can take as little as 6 weeks and at maximum 3 months. You will be seen again in 5 years for an x-ray.

What special qualifications do you
have when it comes to treating more active patients?

Highly active individuals require high degrees of motion. These patients are often younger, and as a result require highly durable implants that can sustain high loads of the kind required for impact athletes or runners.

Depending on the bone sizes and bone quality, the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing or a hip replacement with a dual mobility design may be appropriate. I have returned many patients to high demand activities such as running and martial arts.

About OrthoIllinois

OrthoIllinois’ state-of-the-art Surgery Center is representative of its commitment to comprehensive patient care. Conveniently located on the same campus as our main Rockford clinical building, the center’s physicians and staff utilize leading-edge technology and provide personalized care in a cost-effective manner.

In fact, OrthoIllinois Surgery Center was one of the first ancillary surgery centers in the US to perform total joint replacements as outpatient procedures. Today, qualifying patients can utilize the center for shoulder, knee, and hip replacement surgeries, including the Direct Anterior Approach Hip Replacement.

Regional leaders in outpatient joint replacements

The OrthoIllinois Surgery Center is ideal for surgery or pain management procedures that do not require an overnight hospital stay. This means patients arrive at the center on the day of the surgery, undergo the surgical procedure in an operating room, and recuperate under the care of our experienced nursing staff. When ready, the patient is escorted that same day by a family member or companion to continue recovery in the comfort of their own home. Each member of our staff strives to provide a comfortable experience to ensure a complete and faster recovery.
